Blue 2017 Toyota Corolla iM driving down the road

For over 50 years, the Toyota Corolla has enjoyed popularity all over the world. It’s been at the top of the list of best-selling cars since 1974, and in 1997 it surpassed the venerable Volkswagen Beetle as the best selling nameplate of all time. This compact car is now available in two versions for the 2017 model year, the sedan you know and love, and an all-new hatchback known as the Corolla iM. Learn more about both below.

The Main Differences Between the Corolla and Corolla iM

Corolla Sedan

It was October 1966 when the first Toyota Corolla hit the streets of Japan and set the standard for reliability and fuel efficiency. Fast forward to 2017, and the Corolla now gets an EPA-estimated 36 MPG on the highway and 28 MPG in the city and is one of the best-selling cars in America.

The Corolla features sporty styling inside and out. The redesigned front fascia has an aggressive look, rounded out by standard Bi-LED headlights. Available 17” alloy wheels and a rear spoiler complete the look. Inside, the flowing lines and piano-black accents of the dashboard give the entire car an upscale feel, and the available SofTex® seats make every ride comfortable.

Corolla iM Hatchback

New for the 2017 model year, the Corolla iM takes style to the next level. The sculpted aerodynamics of the front fascia and side skirts give it an appearance of movement even when standing still. Standard equipment includes 17” alloy wheels and a chrome-tipped exhaust, enhancing the hatchback’s performance-inspired look.

Under the hood, a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine produces 137 HP, while the MacPherson strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension keep it steady on any surface. The Corolla iM offers a spacious 20.8 cu. ft. of cargo space in the trunk — which is seven cu. ft. more than the Corolla sedan.

Both the Corolla and the Corolla iM are outfitted with Toyota Safety Sense-P (TSS-P) technology that includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
