CABIN AIR FILTER
Your cabin air filter ensures better air quality inside your car. It helps keep the air inside of your car clean and it helps protect your air conditioner from overwork. It is the last line of defense to keep unwanted allergens, particles, exhaust gases, and dust from entering the interior of your vehicle and the air that you breathe. Cox Toyota proudly provides Burlington, Greensboro, Durham, Highpoint, NC and the surrounding areas with cabin air filters.

The cooling and heating system in your vehicle draws in air from the outside. This air is heated or cooled and then it’s channeled into the interior of your vehicle where you sit and breathe. On most cars, it passes through a cabin air filter just before it enters the seating area. This filter is designed to stop dirt, dust, allergens, bugs, and other things that are picked up as your vehicle travels the road. It’s kind of like the filters that you use in your home to stop the dust, allergens, etc… from coming into your house through your A/C system.
There are many good reasons to change your cabin air filter routinely.
-Better air quality. Cabin air filters help eliminate the majority of mold and pollen particles that enter your vehicle. Filters, also, help keep outside fumes from getting into the seating area. A cabin air filter is effective in keeping dust and allergens from getting inside your vehicle and into the air that you breathe. It helps keep this dust and particles from getting into your nose and eyes while you’re enclosed in your vehicle.
-Heating and cooling system. A dirty cabin air filter restricts airflow into the seating area of your vehicle. This restriction makes it harder on your air conditioning system to heat or cool the interior of your car. That means the components of your system wear out faster. This could eventually lead to a costly repair. As with most things on a vehicle, it cheaper to maintain it along the way than to have a large repair done once a component fails.
-Cleaner car. Another reason to change your cabin air filter is that it helps keep the inside of your vehicle clean. Before cabin air filters were invented a lot of the dust and dirt from the outside would come into the vehicle and settle in the seating area. If you don’t keep a clean one installed then the filter won’t be as effective in keeping this dirt out.
How do I tell if my cabin air filter needs to be changed? / How often should I change my cabin air filter?
The recommendations of your vehicle’s manufacturer should be followed. Most replacements are recommended annually or every 12,000 - 15,000 miles. Sometimes more frequently depending upon the areas that you drive. Filters in areas with heavy exhaust or dusty roads may need to be changed more frequently. The best way to tell for sure is to have your service professional do a visible inspection to check for dirt. Be on the look-out for tell-tale signs like your heating and cooling system not working as well, the air coming in being too loud, or the air coming in at a reduced level. Bad odors may be another indication that it’s time to check your filter. If you would like to schedule an appointment with our Toyota service department, you can schedule an appointment online today.
